Zero to One

by Peter Thiel

Thiel's argument is that real progress comes from building something genuinely new, going from zero to one, rather than copying what already works. He wants you to aim for a monopoly instead of fighting in a crowded market, and to keep asking which important truths almost nobody agrees with you on. It is opinionated and occasionally glib, but it changed how I think about competition.
