Macron wrote this in 2016, just before he ran for president, and it reads exactly like what it is, a campaign manifesto wrapped in a memoir. His pitch is that France is stuck behind an old left versus right fight, and the way out is openness, work, and a serious bet on Europe. The vision is genuinely optimistic. It is just lighter on how he would actually pull it off.
